Sleeping & Insomnia

This is one of the worst problems because a bad night sleep often makes for a bad day. Insomnia responds well to hypnotic techniques because of course we are in a subconscious state when we are going to sleep and while we are sleeping. (See Levels of Hypnosis.)

Types of sleep problems that respond well to hypnosis:

Dreams or nightmares, either recurring or periodic, are the mind’s way of communicating with us. Through hypnosis you can “see” what the dream is about (dreams are often symbols) and eliminate the negative effects of them.

Insomnia (can’t get to sleep or can’t stay asleep) can be debilitating. Lack of sleep leads to irritability and lack of performance. Hypnotherapy will “retrain” the mind to sleep peacefully and wake up only at the time you want.

Frequent waking is often caused by worrying about life issues. Through specialized techniques you train your mind to let go, quiet down, and stay asleep.

Night eating can be conscious (aware) or subconscious (not aware). It is best to use a combination of positive suggestion and looking at the source of the problem.

Restlessness during the night disturbs the sleep patterns. It can be caused by anxiety or a medical problem. Through hypnosis you can lower your stress, learn the “relaxation response” and improve your sleep quality.

Laurie,

When we last talked, I don't think I was willing and able to give you the credit that I now see you deserve. Now, as then, I don't understand how what you do works (and I am inclined to intellectualize everything). But a colleague put it all in perspective when he observed, "Richard, you don't really know why or how pills work? Why should hypnotherapy be any different? Consider the outcome." True, so true.

And the outcome has been truly remarkable, with a sense of completeness that I would not have thought possible when I first walked into your office. Amazing! The results go beyond the particular concerns that caused me to "try" you, constant tension, lack of sleep, and drinking. I don't think I am in full remission on all counts, but I moving rapidly in the right direction on all counts. Beyond the particulars, I've experienced a dramatic change in outlook on life, having moved in a matter of couple of months from some level of depression to a level in which life has regained its forward beat. I feel as though I have been able to reclaim major elements of my "best me’s" of the past, at least the ones with whom I can go with, I hope, into the future.

You have my most sincere and deepest gratitude.
Richard
